New requirements are now in effect to support injured workers’ return to work. The duty to cooperate is designed to encourage connection between workers and employers.

Regulatory updates — January 1, 2024

  • The Workers Compensation Act was amended with new requirements for return to work — duty to cooperate and duty to maintain employment.
  • The Workers Compensation Act and OHS Regulation were amended with new requirements for asbestos abatement licensing and certification. New and revised OHS guidelines were also issued.

  • The Workers Compensation Act was amended to reflect adjustment to the consumer price index (CPI). OHS Policies and OHS Guidelines were also updated.
  • A new OHS Guideline was issued related to certification for concrete pump operators.

Dick Shaw memorial scholarship

This scholarship is offered by the International Society of Explosives Experts in honour of WorkSafeBC prevention officer Richard (Dick) Shaw and is available to students studying subjects relevant to explosives or blasting. Application deadline is March 25.
